We have a simple mission which is to help people stop wasting food. And hopefully it starts now!
To start click on the 'Schools' menu item up top, find your school and start sharing or searching for food. It's that simple so let's make it happen!
We are sisters that have been raised to never waste food. Since being toddlers our Mom would never allow us to waste one grain of rice. She'd tell us every grain of rice left on our plate would cause a pimple and to this day we clean our plates. As we've grown older we've developed our own sense and passion for not wanting food to be wasted. We've also become more aware of the world's hunger problems. Being more knowledgeable along with our fear of pimples, we can't stand seeing food go to waste and want to help.
Have you ever gone to costco and bought more food than you could eat?
Have you ever had more fruits and/or vegetables than you could eat?
Have you ever had food expire and go to waste?
If you answered 'YES' to any of the above questions, then this website is for you. We hope you'll use it and stop wasting food now.
Our sharing model works per school. It requires a school to be registered as a sharing hub for its students' families to share extra food with each other that would otherwise go to waste. Register your school by having the principal send an email to info@stopwastingfoodnow.com and we will get your school set up in no time.
Use the top menu item, Schools, to find your school and then select it to go to its FOOD page. Your school will have been given a school code which you will need to get access.
On your school's Food page, you can select the Share Food button to enter your extra food item(s). Or you can select the Search Food button to see a list of available food. If you find a food item that you'd like, you can use the Connect & Coordinate column.
When a pickup day has been coordinated, the student sharing food will bring their food in a grocery bag labeled with the name of the student that will be picking it up. The food bag is to be left in the school designated area. Check your School's Food page for instructions which will include the designated drop-off and pick-up area. It will usually be the main or Principal's office.
The food must be pre-packaged foods with the exception of fruits and vegetables. Examples are canned foods, boxed cereals, breads, pasta, apples, bananas, strawberries, etc. The food is to be delivered in a bag (grocery bag preferred) with a label of the pick-up student's name on it.
We want more! Ideally, extra can be shared with those that are in need. We're diligently at work designing a way to expand food sharing to those less fortunate. We're also trying to incorporate more food options such as actual leftovers. Wish us luck!
